Did you know?

The whole of Antígona’s family was placed under a curse due to the antics of her father, Oedipus.

Project: Antigone (2/2)

Finally it’s finished. My almost-year-long journey into the depths of a dark and troubled mind has been printed. Done. And boy, am I relieved!

Above are snippets (excerpts) of the seven chapters that comprise La Muerte de Antígona por Ariadna Moore. I’m not exactly sure that the snippets do the whole thing justice, but it gives you a feel for the environment that Antígona 2011 inhabits.

This is Ariadna’s magnificent work and I’m really grateful to have been able to help bring her artistic vision to life. I know (because she’s told me) that she’s really excited about the finished version, so as soon the complete version is out there I will be sure to let you know.

What a week!

What do you think of this? K Anderson’s been doing his In Bed With… series of YouTube vids for a while now. Last weekend I became the umpteenth musician to grace his bed, to do a version of Jennifer Lopez’s latest, I’m Into You.

If you like it, I’d recommend you subscribe to K Anderson’s YouTube channel, to catch up on all the other lovely gems you’ve missed.

Finished! The long saga that has been my work on the greek tragedy Antigone is complete. Audio snippets coming next week.

Friday 22 April

Fabulous gig at Bar SF last night with Beth. We were both of us on stage for about 2 hours last night in a kind of songwriters-in-the-round dual. But we both won! Imma gonna hunt down the pictures and post them soon as I get them.

Saturday 23 April

Spent seven hours in the (admittedly lush) environs of the SAE complex in Barcelona, talking myself hoarse for a voiceover job. A bit like being in a forced labour camp, but (probably) a bit more fun. I had a ball.

Antigone

Antigone - by Lord Frederick Leighton

I’ve spent this year learning so many great ways to make music and also about how we relate to the stories that music can tell us. So far, as well as writing songs for my first solo album and as part of the annual February Album Writing Month, I have written music for a short film, a performance art piece, a mobile phone ringtone, a radio play and a tv theme tune, as well as my continued collaboration with Tanuja Desai Hidier as part of Angels With Whips. These experiences - combined with learning from my collaborators - has made me so much more aware of the different ways in which we interact with music and sound.

In March of this year I was commissioned to write 7, four minute soundscapes to accompany a re-enactment of Sophocles’ heroine, Antigone.

As the end of the year approaches I’m really pleased to say that the end is almost in sight, and that soon I will be able to share this wonderful work with you all.
