Marie Tueje - Number 1

Number 1

First FAWM song, imaginatively titled “Number 1”. The singing’s is way ropey, but it gets the point across. Also, will probably speed it up when I record it properly, but this the first fruits of AAA.

Synthesizing the FAWM experience

<laugh>

This year’s FAWM I’d like to complete two song cycles and an extra track. One based on a short story that I have in sketch form and will probably never write (and if I ever did it probably wouldn’t be very good), and the other based on Ida Lupino film titles.

Actually, I had a ball this February. Only thing was, it wasn’t spent writing songs. Or in “FAWM mode”. That being said:

i) I got three really good songs, and one good song, out of it.

ii) I didn’t go crazy.

iii) There’s always next year.

Right?

FAWM 2011 - #2 The Many Eyes Of Ida Lupino

We’re almost halfway through the month and this is my second completed song, so although there are a two or three in the pipeline I think hitting 14 is looking increasingly unlikely. But that’s OK, cause the thing with FAWM (for me) is to challenge oneself, and to challenge yourself to do something differently. Certainly, with this being my fifth FAWM, there is no novelty in writing 14 songs in the month. And, aside from busy as hell this month, the challenge has to be a personal one in a way.

But here it is, The Many Eyes of Ida Lupino. This song just came together in my head bit by bit. The sort-of backstory is that I was going to do a FAWM mini-EP using titles from Ida Lupino films (well, I’m still kind of doing that, actually), and I guess from that spawned this.

FAWM Feeling

Don’t know whether it’s from listening to all the gobsmacking-toe-tapping-ridiculously-smooth new songs being written this FAWM or what, but I’m feeling “the urge” to write for the first time this month. Which is good, right? Although I’m still greatly handicapped by the amount of other stuff I have to do, the feeling is there and that is what’s important, right?

FAWM 2011 - #1 Electrocute My Love

Yeah, it took a while didn’t it. Five (Six? What’s the date again??) days, to be precise, but I finally got something written for this month’s FAWM. This was written as part of a timed “skirmish” challenge (1 hour); the title is pre-selected and everyone takes it from there. I’m optimistic, rather than confident, of finishing the challenge this year. But that’s completely A-OK.

The title was “Electrocute”. Following this tag will bring up all the “skirmishes”. But they’re all good. Promise.

Song titles

Yeah, it’s almost that time of year again. I have a stack of song titles ready to go. Probably won’t use even a quarter of ‘em though (more on that to follow).

Give me a SONG TITLE and I’ll give you a song.
Feb. 1 marks the beginning of February Album Writing Month (FAWM.ORG) and I thought it would be fun to get your help. Submit your song title and I’ll try to use it.

NEWS: FAWMPILATION 6

With just under 44 days until the next FAWM songwriting challenge begins, the head honchos at FAWM Towers have announced the tracklisting for the sixth annual FAWM compilation CD… and it seems that I’ve managed to wangle my way on to it with my track ‘My Bangs Are Bigger Than Yours’.

Here’s a blast of the original demo:
