Learning from success

One is frequently warned to learn from failure, but what about learning from success? It shouldn't be a given that the truly instructive lessons of success will be learned, for there is always the possibility that one is too drunk on the taste of success to adequately discern how it was achieved.

It occurred to me recently that one way of learning from success is to adopt the mindset that current success is no real formula for future success. If that is accepted, how one builds on success becomes less about following a blueprint, and more about acknowledging our achievements, enjoying them, bragging about them if need be (but not for too long), and then moving one's feet concertedly from the ground that is too soggy or too dry, to the one that is new and yearning to be cultivated. In so doing we are actively preparing new ground for what will hopefully be fresh success.
