Being someone who leaves a footprint of creating or adding value is not an easy accomplishment. I am 'baby steps' level at best but have been encouraged by two recent encounters. I impressed a director by showing offering up a solution to a filming problem that solved a financial and aesthetic problem. Then, a little prior to that, I added value to a collaborator by suggesting a potential new avenue for research they're working on, based on a chapter I had read in a book. These are truly small steps indeed but from those two experiences I can say is that to create value there are two things that one needs to do:
- Be continually open to new experiences and exposed to new ideas.
- Have people - peers, clients, colleagues, friends, family - to share those experiences and ideas with.
