Slow Leisure

Gibson's 1000 piece London jigsaw.

I've heard of 'slow food' and 'slow radio'  but this Christmas - now officially last Christmas, I suppose - I've coined the term 'slow leisure' in describing the simple yet very real pleasure derived from the family coming together to complete the jigsaw above.

It's rare for even families and loved ones to gather around so singular a cause these days, but in turns and in sprints, in stretches and in stints, it took five of us five days to do it. It undoubtedly contributed to a warmer and closer holiday, with us gathering round the living room floor as opposed to bemoaning the lack of things to watch on the TV.
