Is anyone truly good at multitasking? In practice, successful multitasking is, in fact, time-limited focus, whereby a single task is focussed on for a short period of time. So, quite different from performing more than one task at the same time. Yes, I can eat and read the paper, or eat and check my social media. I may miss out on truly enjoying my meal (if it were a meal to be enjoyed) but, from an efficiency point of view, I’m making hay. But I can’t do some work and read a book, even an audio book. I can’t take an important telephone call and watch a film. In so doing, something, somewhere is lost. So, I’ll take time-limited focus over multitasking every time.
