What does a mime do, really? Are they a fake, or is miming actually, really, a deeply-hidden truth revealed through performance?
Miming is a performance, but there’s a truth to it. There has to be. There is pathos and empathy attached to it. There has to be. Mime comes from a place that we don’t often want to go. It can seem weird, even a a little creepy. Which is to posit that its not easy to put ourselves in someone else’s place; to feel as someone else feels, and to act as they act with authenticity, and perhaps it’s this fact that causes the awkwardness, the discomfort. However, pushing beyond that discomfiture can be instructive and rewarding.
